There's not much I can say without giving spoilers away with this being the third book in the series so i'm just going to leave some info about the first book for those of you who haven't read any of the books in the series before getting on to my review. I can say however that I thoroughly enjoyed this book and even though I have a few issues with it in terms of certain characters and their development, I would still highly recommend it and the other books in this trilogy. The world building is excellent and so vivid that while your reading it you feel like your watching a movie. It is so unique and unlike anything else I have ever read, the plot is so well paced and there is never a dull moment!
“Beauty was your armour. Fragile stuff, all show. But what's inside you? That's steel. It's brave and unbreakable. And it doesn't need fixing.”
Info on Shadow and Bone the first book in The Grisha Trilogy: The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka. Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom's magical elite - the Grisha. If Alina is to fulfil her destiny, she must discover how to unlock her gift and face up to her dangerous attraction to The Darkling, a creature of seductive charm and terrifying power. But what of Mal, Alina's childhood best friend? As Alina contemplates her dazzling new future, why can't she ever quite forget him?
The rest of my review contains spoilers! Please don't read on until you have read the book :)
“Maybe love was superstition, a prayer we said to keep the truth of loneliness at bay.”
This book though!! I loved nearly everything single thing that happened in this book! The ending was amazing and emotional, however my main problem was that I still left wanting more from some of the characters including Nikolai and The Darkling. I was not satisfied with what happened to The Darkling and I wish we could have had something from his point of view at some point in this book, I think that would have definitely have added so much more depth to the character; and I really wanted Nikolai to be endgame even though I kind of guessed that wasn't going to happen early on. Although I did still appreciate how the ending was done and it was really wonderful. I feel like Alina's and Mal's story was wrapped up so well that I can look past some of the gaps that are left with the side characters stories. Maybe we will see more of them in Leigh Bardugo's future books, that would really be amazing. Overall this was such an emotional roller coaster read and Leigh Bardugo's writing is so beautiful. This is now one of my favourite trilogy's of all time!! I can't wait to dig into Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom. 5/5 Stars!
