When I finished reading Six of Crows I was really excited to start Crooked Kingdom but also a little worried because I didn't think anything could be better than the first book. But boy was I wrong! This book takes you on a whirlwind ride. The way that this book was written was so clever and I thought that it was absolutely beautiful. Leigh Bardugo was able to write emotional scenes that just make you want to ball your eyes out, action scenes that make you feel like you are sat on the edge of a cliff and plot twists that have you shouting at the book!

I absolutely loved the character development and the direction in which the duology went. I loved every character and just like in the previous book they all stood out and even though they were so different they fit together so well and made for a story that was amazing!

“I would have come for you. And if I couldn't walk, I'd crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we'd fight our way out together-knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that's what we do. We never stop fighting.”

The characters are so realistically flawed and they didn't just change from page to page, Leigh was able show progress without it feeling rushed and she has a way of making you fall in love with her characters. There was some emotional scenes that were amazing I'm not going to go into too many details because I really don't want to spoil the plot for those of you who haven't read it yet so i'll just weave some of my favourite quotes into this review instead.

“Meeting you was a disaster.” She raised a brow. “Thank you.” Djel, he was terrible at this. He stumbled on, trying to make her understand. “But I am grateful for that disaster. I needed a catastrophe to shake me from the life I knew. You were an earthquake, a landslide.” “I,” she said, planting a hand on her hip, “am a delicate flower.” “You aren’t a flower, you’re every blossom in the wood blooming at once. You are a tidal wave. You’re a stampede. You are overwhelming.”

The relationships developed wonderfully and I really found it refreshing that they didn't take away from the main story of the book and never became the main focus yet they were still amazing and I was rooting for all of my favorites!

“You’re stupid about a lot of things, Wylan, but you are not stupid. And if I ever hear you call yourself a moron again, I’m going to tell Matthias you tried to kiss Nina. With tongue." Wylan wiped his nose on his sleeve. “He’ll never believe it." "Then I’ll tell Nina you tried to kiss Matthias. With tongue.”

Overall I thought that this book was incredible and had everything an amazing book should. I would highly recommend that you read The Grisha Trilogy before this Duology because some characters from that series do appear in this book and knowing about what happens in The Grisha Trilogy definitely made the experience even better. (I literally screamed when Nikolai made his appearance!)

5/5 Stars!
